"A huge boulder almost crushed him. He rolled, escaping the worst of the impact. When he looked up again he saw nothing but the reddish-brown coloring of rock. A million tons of hardened lava crashed down on top of him. He roared one last time as his body splintered against the bottom of the cavern."

"El gigantesco dragón dio vuelta en mitad del vuelo. Tragó tanto oxígeno que casi estallaron sus pulmones. Arrasaría el prado a cenizas y atraparía al guía cuando completase su zambullida.
La boca gigantesca se abrió amplia, y una corriente de llama eléctrica salió disparada hacia tierra.
Vino tan rápido que Diego apenas la vio. Se quedó quieto, dejó que su visión se ampliara, y sostuvo sus palmas delante de su pecho. Fijó sus codos y cerró los ojos.
El fuego de dragón rebotó de las manos de Diego y se disparó hacia el cielo al doble de velocidad. Incendio no tenía posibilidad. La electricidad se disparó hacia él, rompiéndose contra su pecho, noqueándole frío."

"The giant dragon turned in midflight. He swallowed so much oxygen his lungs nearly burst. He would blast the paddock to ashes and grab the guide as he completed his dive.
The giant mouth opened wide, and a stream of electric flame shot down toward the ground.
It came so fast Diego barely saw it. He stood still, let his vision expand, and held his palms in front of his chest. He locked his elbows and closed his eyes.
The dragon fire bounced off Diego’s hands and shot skyward at twice the speed. Incendio had no chance. The electricity rocketed toward him, smashing against his chest, knocking him cold."

DIEGO vs. MAGNIFICO

Segunda ilustración interior para el libro segundo de Diego's Dragon.
Diego desafía a Magnífico y a medianoche se encuentran en una cantera abandonada. Justo antes de que Magnífico esté a punto de acabar con Diego para siempre, Diego lanza el fuego con ambas manos. Oye una voz en su cabeza que le ordena: "¡dame tu fuego!" Lo hace, y Magnífico salta por los aires como una piñata. Esta es la primera vez que Diego se encuentra con la compañera de Magnífico, Estrella. Fue ella quien le pidió el fuego usándolo para ayudarle a derrotar a Magnífico.

Diego challenges Magnifico and midnight they meet at an abandoned quarry. Right before Magnifico is about to finish Diego for good, Diego draws fire with both hands. He hears a voice calling in his head, ordering him to "give me your fire!" He does, and Magnifico is blown from the sky like a piñata. This is the first time Diego meets Magnifico's mate, Estrella. It was she who called for Diego's fire, using it to help Diego defeat Magnifico.

TORMENTA EN LA CLASE

Primera ilustración interior para el libro segundo de Diego's Dragon.

Uno de los dragones del enemigo viene al aula de Diego para ver si realmente es "el guía". Antes de que el dragón aparezca, el cuarto entero se vuelve salvaje en una tormenta enorme. Diego se queda pegado cabeza abajo en el tablón de anuncios, totalmente aterrorizado, justo antes de que pase.

One of the enemy's dragons is coming to Diego's classroom to see if he truly is "the guide." Before the dragon appears, the whole room goes wild in a huge storm. Diego is stuck upside down on the bulletin board, scared out of his mind, right before he passes out.
